Dream Street Models have been established since 2010 by Chloe Avon with a strong desire to represent people of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds to high street retailers and independent boutiques. Back in 2010 it was unheard of for models to be signed to an agency that were under 5'8 or over a certain dress size however as consumers we are all different shapes and sizes, With the advance in technology more and more people want to see models who they can relate too and we believe as an agency this will help businesses sell more stock along with raise the bar on what people "think" models should look like... Yes we get the big runways in Paris, New York or anywhere in the world show samples and the smaller the sizes the less material used and the lower the cost but when it comes to things like catalogues, boutiques selling clothing online.. Why shouldn't a size 14 dress be worn on a size 14 model? Consumers WANT to see what they are buying not what it could look like a few pounds lighter. So Dream Street was born, full of energy and passion to see change. A lot of people get too hung up on the past twenty years or so and think that nothing will change. We hear people all the time who were ex-photographers, ex-makeup or ex-models telling us that the industry will be forever size 6 but times are changing, technology's changing and the way things work are also changing.
From the start we offered models the chance to build a portfolio, the chance of training and the chance to be represented online.. We found between 2010 and 2014 that we were often footing the bill for people's careers while they floated in and out undecided if modelling was for them. The modelling industry comes with a lot of rejection, a lot of long hours, cold days, cold nights and waiting around. You could spend hours waiting for makeup, waiting for photographers, waiting your turn for fitting, It all depends on how things go and often people will decide it isn't what the media made it out to be and it is infact hard work and they'll quit without saying anything about the hundreds of hours, pounds and photos that have been produced for them. So in December 2015 we made change. We had the option of putting together a "trusted" list for people to contact such as Photographers, Runway Choreographers, PR contacts and stylists but other than inundating third parties with people enquiring because they are thinking about modelling it would also cost a lot more.. For example a decent portfolio maybe £150.00, Makeup maybe £40 and an hour with a PR consultant maybe another £40.. So already the bill would be at £230 and that's before you are even ready to get started... We soon realised we need to condense this and minimise the headache of making all the arrangements.
We decided to minimise the headache of having to find a "Good" and "Reputable" photographer, We decided to help models with PR as well as photos, Help models represent themselves professionally and to the best standard.. We upped our game with the website and started to add more images, more information and an easier way of applying. We added an annual fee of £70.00 which covers any costs incurred for EIGHTEEN months and we started to work with a high calibre of creatives to bring together people who want to work hard and want to produce to the best of their ability. We offer regular opportunities for Publications with many of our models seeing themselves published in UK and International magazines within the first few months of joining us, Some of our larger runway shows have High Quality Celebrity International choreographers who teach our models basis runway training for FREE. We also have constant support, PR support and encourage models the best we can to go forward on top of the standard client work which comes in. We decided to make a cut to our commission levels to just 15% from 25% on paid work so the model receives 85% of what's coming in and most importantly we have filtered out the people who are just "Giving it ago" and replaced them with enthusiastic and truly stunning models, each with a different story to tell so our clients know that they really are getting the best.
Most importantly despite criticism we still represent people of all different shapes, sizes and backgrounds as although we are an agency we still stand for the reason why we started and that's a platform to promote "REAL" people to leading retailers and independent boutiques. So far we have had outstanding levels of feedback because customers can relate to our models and will help the brand long term grow.
As an agency we also have a corporate social responsibility to NOT promote diet pills or weight loss and we do reject clients of this nature no matter how big or successful the PR campaign maybe. We believe in ethical modelling, keeping models safe not only online but mentally and physically. We don't believe in telling models they should change to look like this or to look like that. We accept a model based on what we see and we would never expect them to change later down the line.
We can hand on heart tell everyone that we believe in every single model we represent and we believe that no matter how long it takes, they will make it to where they want to be.
